Die Deutsche Quarter Horse Association nimmt jedes Jahr ein bis zwei Persönlichkeiten in ihre Hall of Fame auf, die sich in besonderem Maße um die Rasse American Quarter Horse verdient gemacht haben. In diesem Jahr sind die Carola und Ulli Vey

 Carola und Ulli Vey

„Trailblazer für das American Quarter Horse weltweit“ hat Cam Foreman sie genannt, und  AQHA Past Executive Vice-President Bill Brewer nennt die beiden “unermüdliche Unterstützer der American Quarter Horse Industrie in Deutschland, Europa und bei der AQHA – und das seit über 30 Jahren“. Tatsächlich haben nur wenige andere die Entwicklung der Deutschen Quarter Horse Association wie auch der Westernreitszene generell über so viele Jahre begleitet wie Carola und Uli Vey.

Ulli Vey war 31 Jahre lang International Director der DQHA und Vorstandsmitglied und repräsentierte den Verband bei der AQHA und FEQHA. 2004 bis 2006 war er Chairman des AQHA International Committee, anschließend diente er drei Jahre im Hall of Fame Committee. 2009 wurde er AQHA Director at Large auf Lebenszeit und vertritt weiterhin die Interessen der AQHA und DQHA mit Argumenten und Stimmrecht bei der AQHA und FEQHA. Seit 2009 ist Ulli für die DQHA Mitglied im FN DOKR Reining Beirat.

Doch ohne seine Frau Carola wäre Ulli Vey nicht zu den American Quarter Horses gekommen. Der Name Vey wurde rasch ein Begriff in Sport und Zucht. Ingesamt 50 Fohlen kamen aus der Zucht von „Carola Vey Quarter Horses“, allen voran Dressed by Vey  - unter Carola Vey Deutscher Meister Hunter under Saddle und mit Ulli Vey Deutscher und Europameister Pleasure Driving. Weitere DM und EM-Titel folgten für Ulli in Pleasure Driving, für Carola in Western Pleasure, Hunter under Saddle sowie Halter. 

Über 55 international bekannte Turniere veranstalteten die Veys eigenverantwortlich, darunter 24 Mal das Internationale Westernreitturnier in der Stadthalle Bremen – eine Show, die Maßstäbe setzte, unter anderem den ersten CRI ausschrieb und in einer Abendshow vor 6000 Zuschauern gipfelte. Weitere Events waren die Hippologica 1991 mit dem mit DM 100.000 dotierten Berlin Open, der ebenfalls mit DM 100.000 dotierte World Nations Cup in der Bremer Stadthalle, das „Bremer Pferdefest / Schimmelhof“, die Carola Vey Quarter Horse Show /Bremen Blumenthal sowie dreimal das Internationale Reitturnier in der Dortmunder Westfalenhalle in Kooperation mit Hubertus Lüring. Nicht zu vergessen die Celebration Western Pleasure, Hunter under Saddle und Longeline im Rahmen der Bavarian Summer Show in Kreuth, die Carola Vey sieben Mal organisierte. Zudem wirkten die beiden auf den DQHA Jahreshauptshows mit, darunter 1989 beim „International Quarter Horse Cup“, Aachen. 1990 betreute Carola das deutsche Youth World Cup Team in Calgary, Kanada.

1983 erfand Horst Köhn den DQHA Ball in Altenau/Harz. 1993 fügten Ulli Vey und Eberhard Kleinmann die Convention und die Auction im Marriott/ Frankfurt hinzu. 2000 kam auf Ullis Anregung die Hall of Fame in Stuttgart dazu. Dreimal veranstalteten die Veys selbst Ball, Convention, Benefit Auction und Hall of Fame. Überhaupt hat es den Veys nie an Ideen gemangelt, um die DQHA voranzubringen. Dazu zählen die Live Auction der SSA ebenso wie der SSA Auszahlungsmodus oder die Initiative, Profi Fotografen wie K.C. Montgomery nach Deutschland zu holen. Auch die AQHA Horsemanship Camps in Europa und der European Youth und Amateur Cup der FEQHA gehen auf die Initiative von Ulli Vey zurück. Im Februar 1991 trafen sich Ulli Vey,  der Verleger und Turnierveranstalter Rolf Ehlers und der Journalist Raimund Hesse beim Bremer Stadthallenturnier und hoben das  Quarter Horse Journal aus der Taufe. Bereits im Mai 1991 erschien die erste Ausgabe - auf der Titelseite Kay Wienrich und Doc Chex.

Auf seiner ersten DQHA Mitgliederversammlung als Vorstandsmitglied 1987 präsentierte Ulli Vey die Zahlen mit 1184 American Quarter Horses und rund 400 Mitgliedern - 31 Jahre später auf seiner letzten Mitgliederversammlung als Vorstandsmitglied waren es über 37.000 Pferde und über 7000 Mitglieder. Er sagte: „Ich bin stolz darauf, dass ich diese Entwicklung begleiten durfte. Die DQHA ist Teil unseres Lebens geworden.“

“What an honor to be asked to say something about Ulli and Carola Vey and their much deserved induction into the DQHA Hall Of Fame. It has been my pleasure to call Ulli a friend for over 25 years and I have had the opportunity to work with him on many different projects.

First and foremost, Ulli has been a great friend to the American Quarter Horse not only in Germany, but throughout the World. He has been a leader on many levels and one prime example of his respected leadership is that he was the first person ever elected chair of the AQHA International Committee who did not reside in the United States. To be elected to that position with representation from all over the World speaks volumes about his leadership skills and his worldwide respect. Ulli worked tirelessly to help the DQHA, but in the early years played a significant role in the management of the European Championship Quarter Horse Show as well as the FEQHA. I had the pleasure to work hand-in-hand with Ulli on the European Championship Show and those are some of my fondest memories of my many travels to Germany. Ulli and Carola have been true trailblazers for the American Quarter Horse worldwide and are most deserving of the honor of being inducted into the DQHA Hall Of Fame. I wish I could be with you my friends as you receive this very special honor. Happy trails and remember this is all possible because of the wonderful American Quarter Horse!

It is my pleasure to be a part in the induction of Ulli and Carola Vey in the DQHA Hall of Fame.  Both are most deserving of this wonderful honor.

 I know first hand of the many years that Ulli and Carola have dedicated their time and expertise to support the DQHA, AQHA and the American Quarter Horse industry.  I first remember meeting the Veys over 30 years ago at the first AQHA European judges applicant school.  Since that time they have both spent untold hours supporting DQHA and AQHA events and activities. as well as being breeders and owners.  They were always insightful, positive, knowledgeable members of the various committees and organizations they served.  

I had the honor of attending several Equitanas and European Championships.  Ulli and Carola were always there volunteering and helping in any way they could to advance the American Quarter Horse.  

 Ulli has been actively involved with the American Quarter Horse Association serving on the International Committee over 20 years, as an International Director for 15 years and as a Director at Large for 20 years.  He has served on AQHA's International, Nominations and Credentials and Hall of Fame Selection Committees.  He was the first International member to be selected as the chair of the International Committee.

 Ulli and Carola have worked tirelessly supporting the American Quarter Horse industry in Germany, Europe and AQHA.  I am so pleased to see them inducted into the DQHA Hall of Fame.  It is my honor and privilege to have known and worked with Ulli and Carola to enhance AQHA, DQHA and the American Quarter Horse industry.
